Summary note:
This brightly colored sugoroku gameboard educates players on the names and functions of all the government offices and ministries, many of which were newly established during the Meiji period (1868-1912). The game begins (furidashi) at the local ward office, followed by the Tokyo municipal office, the police department, the office for promoting trade, the ministry of foreign affairs, the ministry of internal affairs, the department of the navy, the higher courts, the post office, ministry of construction, and the ministry of education. The inner loop includes the imperial household department, ministry of justice, ministry of war, the senate, the telegraph office, local court, ministry of agriculture, and the supreme court. The final goal (agari) is the Grand Council of State (Dajōkan [1868-1885]). The game is further complicated by an extra box, warning that players will have to go back a space for each number over the exact amount needed to enter the goal.
