In Piet Mondriaan. Evolutie wordt de weg naar abstractie die Mondriaans werk doormaakte, getoond aan de hand van de belangrijkste opeenvolgende periodes in het leven van de kunstenaar. Het boek is een directe visuele presentatie die de lezer meeneemt van de naturalistische schilderijen van rond 1890 en zijn experimentele neo - impressionistische werk naar de abstracte 'grid' schilderijen. De belangrijkste schilderijen, persoonlijke foto's en twee essays geschreven door Piet Mondriaan zelf, zijn prachtig gevisualiseerd en gedocumenteerd, met passende bijschriften.
