Summary note
'The Traveller' is a personal reflection of the world where strange connections occur. Benge's photographs never offer answers, only questions to tempt the curious. The book is part fiction, part autobiography and deals with Benge's recurring themes of loss, and, as his self portraits attest, impermanence. His democratic view is an acerbic, wry response to the world in free-fall where nothing is certain. Yet there is humor, affection, hope and unexpected beauty. Harvey Benge is a New Zealander who works in Auckland and Paris. He has twice been a finalist in the prestigious Prix du Livre at Arles Photography Festival, France. He has also exhibited his work extensively in both public and private galleries in Britain, throughout Europe, and in New Zealand. Benge is also involved in curatorial projects and at Auckland's AUT University he runs a series of ongoing photography workshops with international photographers.
