Summary note
Creating architecture in the Bordeaux region, constructing a building where all the history and culture of wine can resonate, required a transfiguration of the organic link between architecture and wine. For the Cité du Vin, Anouk Legendre et Nicolas Desmazières defined a singular approach, a questioning of the meaning of win, of its origins and the development of its cultural identity. Between the city and the river, between the quay and the former industrial zone of Bordeaux, the Cité di Vin marks its place as a dynamic figure, clearly legible from all the horizons of the city. The architecture becomes a body, one in movement, draped in its double skin, a screen upon which the changing ambiance of the river banks and the interplay of light and water and the diversity of atmospheres are continuously projected, an architecture transcribing from day to day the impermanence of the weather, a recurring focus of attention and worry in the world of viticulture.
