Summary note
It draws a parallel between his works and the theories of an important coeval philosopher, MauriceMerleau-Ponty. Retracing his life and the cultural exchanges he held with postwar intellectuals, especially in Paris, the volume proposes a phenomenological interpretation of Giacometti's artistic experience. The author identified a 1946 drawing by Giacometti as the portrait of Maurice Merleau-Ponty, who visited the artist's studio in Paris in that period. The book also includes an exchange of letters between Lorella Scacco and Swiss scholar Reinhold Hohl, which provided key material for the book.
