Summary note
Die Gruppe GORGONA ist ein sehr frühes und herausragendes Beispiel für die internationale Aufbruchsstimmung der Zeit nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg und der Herausbildung experimenteller Avantgarden um 1960. In Zagreb fanden sich Josip Vaništa, Julije Knifer, Marijan Jevšovar, Đuro Seder, Ivan Kožarić, Miljenko Horvat, Radoslav Putar, Matko Meštrović und Dimitrije Bašičević (Mangelos) zu Diskussionen und Aktivitäten zusammen. Die Gruppe verfolgte weder das Ziel eines Produkts noch eines Resultats. Auf der Suche nach intellektueller Freiheit wurden vielmehr Kunstformen entgegen dem traditionellen Werkbegriff entwickelt. Neben experimentellen Aktionen und Ausstellungstätigkeiten, ironisch imitierender staatlicher Korrespondenz, ist mit dem Anti-Magazin eine Heftreihe als Kunstwerk entstanden. Die ausstellungsbegleitende Publikation vermittelt den Geist der Gruppe GORGONA sowie die individuellen autarken Künstlerpostitionen anhand der prägnantesten Texte der bisherigen Rezeptionsgeschichte.
