Summary note
With over 100 works, sculptures / drawings / gouaches, the exhibition presents a comprehensive exhibition by the Berlin sculptor Berndt Wilde (* Dessau 1946). For the first time, silver pen drawings from an early trip to Italy, collages, prints with the development of the sculptures will be shown together in Stendal. Although the cursory glance at his oeuvre does not immediately lead one to believe: Berndt Wilde has repeatedly dealt with the ancient world as well. Drawings of famous Greek sculptures, e.g. Figures from the Pergamon Altar or the Parthenon Frieze belong to his work early on. In 1979, the artist living in the GDR had the good fortune to travel to Italy. As for many artists, the Mediterranean vegetation and the historic buildings were a special source of inspiration for him. Views of Italy, drawings of ancient statues and pictures of ancient ruins emerged. The main work of the artist is the sculpture. These may be cubist in the best sense of the word. In addition to biblical themes such as Adam and Eve, it is above all the ancient figure of Ariadne, the mythical daughter of the Cretan king Minos, who falls in love with the Athenian Theseus and helps him with the legendary Fadenknäul to defeat the Minotaur. Exhibition: Winckelmann Museum, Stendal, Germany (18.06.-31.07.2016).
