Summary note
"Since the acclaimed modernization of Berlin's Olympic Stadium if not before, the Hamburg architectural team of von Gerkan, Marg, and Partners has been thoroughly established as a star in the field of sports-arena construction. Three football stadiums in Germany - the spectacular RheinEnergieStadion in Cologne, the Stadion der Freundschaft in Cottbus, and the new Waldstadion in Frankfurt - as well as a series of projects in the Arab Gulf States, North Africa and China have set new standards around the world, and confirmed GMP's dominance in this specialized branch of design. Stadia and Arenas is full of plans and color illustrations; it covers all of GMP's most recent work in this field as well as projects currently under construction. It also sheds new light on a massive and powerful class of structures, one whose long tradition reaches back to antiquity."--BOOK JACKET.
