    Summary note
    Treatise regarding the teaching of the Qurʾān, mainly a collection of ḥadīths, in seven maqāṣid and a khātimah (see beginning of text, fol. 1a). The preamble (fol. (i)b) explains the occasion for the composition of this treatise: a letter received by the author in Jumādá II 957 [June-July 1550] relating a discussion on the matter. Maqṣad 7 gives in full the questions and answers of this discussion.

    • Title from title page (fol. 1a). The name of the author also appears at the end of the copy (fol. 48b).
    • Physical description: 17 lines per page. Written in casual medium large naskh in black ink with use of red. European paper with watermark ; frame-ruled. Occasional marginal annotations. Modern foliation in pencil using Western numerals (omits the first fol.; this record follows the existing foliation). Loose leaves ; loose quires.
    • Origin: According to colophon, copied from a copy in the hand of "sayyidī wa-ustādhī" Shaykh al-Islām ... Shams al-Dīn Muḥammad al-Shūbarī al-Shāfiʻī, on 16 Shawwāl 1064 [Aug. 30, 1654] (fol. 49a).
