    Summary note
Both historically and architecturally, Amsterdam-Noord is a unique part of the city of Amsterdam. With its 19th-century dyke cottages, garden suburbs, the industrial heritage of the former shipyards, the postwar modernism of the famous Plan Van Gool estate and contemporary architecture, such as the Kraanspoor office building and EYE Film Institute Netherlands, Noord ('North') has it all. The short descriptions in these notes touch on this district's eventful architectural history and urban development. There is an index of buildings and parks, a list of architects and three illustrated cycling routes.
