Summary note
Collection of two Persian poems: Shabistarī's Gulshan-i rāz, a treatise on Sufism in verse, incomplete at end; and the Dīvān of Shams Maghribī, which begins in the middle of the ʻArabīyāt.
Notes
Ms. codex.
On inner front cover, note to Robert Garrett from Ali-Kuli Khair, dated 1926, listing the contents of the ms.
Physical description: 15 lines per page, in two columns; written in small, elegant nastaʻliq in black on cream, glazed, laid Arabic paper. Written surface gold-sprinkled and bordered by gold; columns separated by double gold lines. Catchwords. Extensive damp staining in lower quarter of ms., resulting in occasional smudging. Otherwise in good condition.
Decorations: Illuminated ʻunwān in gold and colors on fol. 1b with title of text 1 in white. Illuminated ʻunwān on fol. 42b marks beginning of the ghazalīyāt in text 2; smaller illuminated headings mark the tarjīʻāt (fol. 107b) and rubāʻīyāt (fol. 122b). Headings and colophon in gold on a delicate gold and blue foliar background. Last line of every ghazal and tarjīʻ written in a central rectangle flanked on either side by illuminations in gold and color.
Origin: Text 2 completed 880 H [1475 or 6] (fol. 126a); text 1 written by the same hand, likely around the same time.
