Summary note:
  • Contains approximately 77 official letters, edicts, speeches, verse epitaphs and epigrams, satirical poems, and other texts and documents in French, Latin, and Spanish (Castilian), many of which relate to French history and politics from the reigns of Kings Henry II to Louis XIII of France. Note on the front pastedown indicates, "Tout ce liure n'est rapsodié de plusieurs subjectz / Vn pot pourry de diverses matieres / Vne salade de differents discours / Et un cahos de quantité de choses qui se sont passées / Soubz les regnes d'Henry 3° et 4°." The entire volume uses the same paper, very likely from the 1590s, and was written by different hands between circa 1598 and 1630.
  • Among the texts in the volume are the following: "Epigramme sur le suject de la paix de Vervins l'an 1598" (fol. 12r); "Articles de la paix generalle d'entre le Roy de France et de Navarre, le Roy d'Espaigne, le Duc de Savoye et les autres princes Chrestiens, faicte à Vervins le 2 jour du mois de may 1598" (fols. 12r-28r); "Vers contre de Monsieur de Marillac auquel en 1625 le Roy Loys XIII le Juste donna les sceaux" (fol. 59v); "Satyre ou Pasquil contre les Dames de l'an 1628" (fols. 70v-72); "Epitaphe de Hugues Danel, sergent, Jean Voziau, executeur, et de Messire Aubin Blondel, presbtre, executtez en la place de Grève à Paris le XXVIIe jour d'aoust 1594" (fol. 115r); "Ballet des vieilles" and "Ballet des merciers" (fol. 115v); "Epitaphe de Hugues Danel, sergent, Jean Voziau, executeur, et de Messire Aubin Blondel, presbtre, executtez en la place de Grève à Paris le XXVIIe jour d'aoust 1594" (fol. 115v); and "Vers athéistes et impudiques du Sieur Théophile, an 1622" (fol. 124v). Fols. 3, 35, 76, 86, 87, 116, 117, and 127 were removed with a loss of text.
