    Summary note
Klavans presents five multidisciplinary goals of digital libraries: creating new digital content, creating new access mechanisms, improving networking, discovering ways digital data is used, and formulating new presentation methods, with emphasis on the last two. She discusses problems with summarization methods and describes a project for generating coherent summaries for multiple documents, languages, user needs and data types.
